FIRST TECHNICAL ANALYSIS GUIDE

Technical Analysis studies price patterns to identify trading opportunities. Technical Analysis is about charting data and interpreting charts using technical tools and techniques. These techniques are insolated into formulas which we sometimes call trading model and mechanical trading system in accordance to a trading plan. A trading plan encompasses the estimation of the trades’ rewards and risks. A good trading plan specifies the strategies for entry and risk control management. A good trading plan is a good money management plan.

First Technical Analysis Guide studies all the above subjects. This guide is truly a trader’s notebook, written by a trader for traders. It is written with the hope that all traders can benefit from this guide.

Purpose, Objective and Aim

This guide is the compilation of a comprehensive review and compilation of the published and unpublished work from primary and secondary sources of information in the areas of technical analysis. The purpose and reason of compiling this guide is to ensure that there is a comprehensive coverage on all the tools known to traders. Therefore, the objective of this guide is to explore some of the simple techniques using a selection of the tools covered in technical analysis for trading especially for mechanical trading systems. The ultimate aim of this guide is to develop a good trader of the reader.

First Technical Analysis Guide consists of 2 books and 1 research study.

The first book called Technical Analysis – The Basics concentrates on an introduction to technical analysis. This basic level introduction is written for investors who are new to technical analysis. It introduces range trading and trend trading. It explores most of the better known trading techniques for range trading and also for trend trading. It gives a general idea to new traders on the tools that are available in technical analysis and how to use them. It offers a brief overview of the concept of simple moving average and standard deviations.

The second book called Technical Analysis – The Applications in Professional Model Trading concentrates on the strategies used in trading. This advanced level is written for serious investors who are willing to commit time, money and endurance to trade profitably. It analyses a particular trading system, BBZ and related trading plans, strategies and risk control management. It gives instructions to traders on how to develop and optimise a trading system. It shows how simple moving average and standard deviations can be used for model building.

The final book, a research study called Genesis of BBZ shows how the Bollinger Bands Z-Score Indicator is derived from Bollinger Bands which is standard deviations and moving average. The study is done on the futures contract on Kuala Lumpur Composite Index ("FKLI").
